Abstract

The local Chronicles of China is a unique Japanese compilation of China's provinces, which provides a detailed account of various aspects of Chinese society at the beginning of the twentieth century. The article on the basis of analyzing the purpose of its compilation, sources of information, composition of its contents, and characteristics of its accounts, has made an evaluation of the book from the perspective of Area Studies, and pointed out its significance as a reference for our future engagement in Area Studies.
