Abstract

The Tkachev brothers are a highly representative artist duo in Russian realist painting during the second half of the 20th century; their work consistently focuses on rural life and the inner worlds of ordinary people. Taking the painting “Mothers” as its subject, this article first offers an overall interpretation of the composition, then analyzes the core characteristics of the brothers' oil painting art by focusing on the intrinsic language of the medium, and finally explores the humanistic significance embodied in their artistic style. Drawing upon solid realist technique, they achieve a high degree of unity among compositional form, color expression, and brushwork texture. Through the creation of archetypal figures and the realistic depiction of rural settings, their work not only reflects the lived realities of ordinary people but also embodies profound national memory and humanistic concern.
