Abstract

Actively guiding religions to adapt to socialist society is the most fundamental task and direction of religious work of the Communist Party of China in the New Era. As a religion that has been introduced into China for more than two thousand years and has become deeply integrated into traditional Chinese culture, Buddhism’s adaptation to socialist society is an inevitable trend of historical development and also a requirement for the innovative development of religious work in the New Era.

Taking historical logic, theoretical connotations, real-world dimensions, and practical pathways as its basic framework, this paper reviews the historical trajectory and contemporary transformation of the Sinicization of Buddhism. It explains the ideological foundations and value compatibility between Buddhism and China’s socialist society, analyzes the main directions of current practice, and proposes mechanisms to promote the healthy transmission of Buddhism and deepen the process of adaptation in the New Era. The study aims to provide theoretical references and practical ideas for the high-quality development of Buddhist work in the New Era.
